MCA - The Right Choice for You?

BCom + MCA grad right here, well almost, coz in my final semester now. And I don't regret a single day of it. In fact, MCA was a blessing.

My way of thought is, "What good is your degree if it can't earn you a living?" After my BCom, I barely had any job opportunities. If you're a BCom grad, you'd know this by now. And you don't wanna slave away doing some white guy's accounts during the night hours for a measly pay which is what an accountant job is mostly about, nowadays. Nor do you wanna be a 'Business Development Associate/Executive at an MNC,' aka a call center guy dialing hundreds of numbers trying to sell a a fake MBA degree to some random dude over the phone.

What is your other option? Higher education? Good, then continue reading.

Higher education is an option very few have an access to. If you do, consider yourself blessed. Then the question comes, "Which degree?" The obvious answer will be MBA.

MBA's are, as I like to call them, an overly qualified bunch of poorly paid call center workers. Most MBA's land only shitty jobs such as call center BDA/E's, accountant or some supervisor, UNLESS, if you graduated out the premier MBA institutes, such as the IIM's etc. or if you're one of the few talented in your batch.

Other degrees? MCom? A higher qualified guy with the same capabilities of a BCom dude?

MFA? People have barely heard what it stands for, less even offering jobs for it.

Or CA? CS? CWA? Prepare to work your ass off, like literally! If you're going this way, this question is not for you.

Go abroad? Yes? Good university? Go! Not? Don't be an unemployed guy with a huge education loan, unless of course, you're rich as hell.

Then comes the option of MCA. Now, y'all might be wondering, "How on earth will a commerce grad pursue a computers degree? How is he eligible?"

FYI, any graduate who has studied a computer science subject and a math/statistics subject in both, his/her degree and his/her +2 level is eligible for MCA at most universities.

And MCA is not that difficult to transition to. Most of the syllabus starts from the basics. Something that a non-BCA grad can also follow. Something as simple as 'C' programming language in the first semester. Just be ready to venture deep into computer science territory, but initially with your hand held well.

And at the end, MCA gets good job opportunities, more so if you did it at premier institutes. Basically, almost any job for which an engineer from Computer Science or Information Science is eligible.
